About Us:
The Harrow Hackers are a hard
group to sum up but after viewing all of our pages you should
come away with some sense of what "being a Hacker" is all
about. The group has been together in various forms for well
over a decade now and has fragmented into four distinct
divisions.
The original group, the S.N.H.L. (Saturday Night Hacker
League) was formed by Mike "Dr. Feelgood" Parent and
represents the pickup hockey players who are present every
Saturday night throughout the winter
months playing at
Harrow Arena. Originally formed when a group of pond
hockey players decided to move indoors, this farm team for the
Tournament Group is known for some wild dressing room parties
and not letting foul weather stand in the way of a Canadian
tradition.
The second group, the Hacker Tournament team, used to draw
upon the talent of the S.N.H.L. to put a team into the Rusty
Blade in Kingsville every spring but is currently on hiatus
from tournament play. Once again, originally founded by Mike
Parent, this team was taken over by myself about 10 years ago.
Since its inception the Tournament Hackers team have won the
Blade only once but did it in convincing fashion. Backstopped
by Walt "The Wall" Emery, they went undefeated in four games
to win the title. The following year Walt decided to stretch
his legs a little and put a rookie between the pipes, me.
Since that time we have never managed another title and have
struggled to both keep the opposing teams out of double digits
and muster an occasional win. But WE HAVE FUN! The Hacker
tournament team is mostly known for good sportsmanship (with a
few notable exceptions...Will) and drinking every other team
under the table off the ice. We are also known for bringing
the first female player into the Blade. Watch for this team to
make a comeback soon.
The third group is the Travel Team. Once again drawing on
S.N.H.L. talent, mixed with a few friends, this team played
the old Maple Leaf Gardens on April 15th 2000 and Toronto will
never be the same. Oh the stories I could tell if it weren't
for the Hacker non-disclosure oath. You'll just have to take
my word on this one. (and check out some of the photos...)
Formed over a few too many beers between Dave Halliday and
myself this newest team is always looking for another new
adventure... If past success is any indication we should be
able to keep this one going for another decade.
The final group is the Summer Hockey Camp which was originally
formed by Dave Halliday in 1999. The new improved for 2009
Windsor Coed Hockey Association group draws upon the talents of the
Saturday night Hackers, the Harrow Womens Hockey League
and many local "pick up" hockey groups.
This summer ice time helps would be Hackers (and Hacket's)
hone their skills throughout the summer off season. Combined
with a few golf outings it also helps keep everyone in tip top
shape. (no loss of beer tolerance) Ice time is Tuesday nights
at the new W.F.C.U. Centre in Windsor. Contact Michelle "Flash" Bondy or
myself or check out the new website at
www.wcha.ca for more information.
